RTO Requirements for International Students


To be eligible for enrolment at Norton Institute  into the RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design all international applicants must  be 18 years old or older and exhibit evidence of academic and English language proficiency as follows:

Academic Requirements:

  • Students need to have either successfully finished Australian Year 12 or an equivalent level of education, or hold a Certificate IV or a higher qualification from an Australian educational institution.


 Pathway Model:

  • After completing RII60520 – Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design students may progress to higher education courses.


Credit Transfer

  • We accept qualifications from other RTOs and offer Credit Transfer for equivalent subjects/units.


English Language Requirements: Required Exhibit proficiency in English at an IELTS level of 5.5, with no individual band score lower than 5.0. Alternatively, you can provide an equivalent demonstration of English language proficiency through one of the following options:

  • PTE Academic score of 42

  • CAE score of 162

  • A Duolingo score of 90

  • Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT) score of 46

  • OET score of B

  • Completion of the General English Upper Intermediate level

  • MOI Certificate

Assessment methods encompass a variety of approaches, such as written inquiries, task demonstrations, group exercises, classroom activities, role-playing, presentations, work-based projects, research assignments, and the collection of workplace observations and evidence.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method for formally acknowledging the skills and knowledge acquired through work, life experiences, and any unrecognized training you may have undergone. During the entry and interview phases, Norton Institute will engage in a discussion with you regarding the RPL process and available options. Suitability for RPL is typically assessed based on your level of experience in a specific field, your work history, and previous training. If you are deemed eligible for RPL, you will receive a guidebook that will assist you in evaluating your relevant skills and experiences for each unit, helping you identify whether you can provide the necessary evidence.

To obtain the Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design certificate, students must satisfactorily complete all course units. Learners who only complete some of the units will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units in which they have demonstrated competence.
